NEDWeb

NEDWeb is a web-based directory registration and update service for NED.  It is comprised of two major components:

  AO/AT interface

  public search/self-service update

AO/AT Interface

The AO/AT interface provides a mechanism for the collection and maintenance of NED data by Administrative Officers (AOs) and Administrative Technicians (ATs).  This includes adding or “registering” new people in NED, updating existing records, authorizing NIH services (e.g., ID badges, NIH Library privileges, Active Directory accounts and Exchange mailboxes), and deactivating records when people leave the NIH.  The AO/AT interface is also used for performing administrative functions, transferring people between ICs, and creating reports.  ATs can enter data, but must submit changes to AOs for approval before NED is updated.  Users must be authorized to use the AO/AT interface.

Public Search/Self-Service Update

NED public search (http://ned.nih.gov) allows members of the NIH community and the general public to obtain current contact and organizational information for NIH workers.  The public search interface also provides self-service update capability whereby record owners can view all, and update some of their own NED information.  Self-service updates can only be performed from the NIH network and requires authentication using NIH Login.
