DSC members will be testing the user interface during the next couple of weeks.  Tom Bodine will meet individually with each member to provide a basic overview of the interface and get him or her started with testing.  AO comments and feedback will be summarized and discussed at a future meeting.  Changes will also be made during the testing period as needed.

The committee discussed the “employee type” categories developed by ORS.  In general, they are the same as those defined by the DSC.  The only question is whether some or all of the subcategories under the ORS Tenants category should be included under “Contractors.”  Also, since ORS is the only organization dealing with these folks, it was suggested that Tenant be excluded from the Record Type drop down list unless the AO is a member of ORS.   There seemed to be agreement it would make sense to at least show the subcategories on the interface to assist AO/ATs in correctly identifying people during registration.

The “de-registration” process was discussed.   According to the AOs present at meeting, a person is supposed to be de-registered when they change ICs and that there is a paper form that is filled out and submitted by an AO as part of the process.

The issue of data validation during the pilot was raised.  The question was whether an effort should be made to correct and/or supplement information that is imported into the NED as part of the initial directory population process.  This will depend on whether the directory will be re-populated at the end of the pilot phase.  At this point, it appears likely that it will be, but a final decision had not been made.  Once it has, we can determine whether it makes sense for AOs to expend the effort involved in validating and correcting data in the directory.

It was pointed out that email notification to directory entry owners should not be generated during the AO testing and pilot phases.  This would be confusing to users who are unaware of the testing process.  Email will thus be limited to AO notification when requests are submitted by ATs and subsequent AT notification following AO approval or rejection of requests.

There was a discussion regarding what the immediate benefits of the NED might be along with those accruing from the longer-range meta-directory implementation. Concern was expressed that during NED Phase I, there will be an increased requirement for entering redundant information into the directory.  It was pointed out the PAID database is planning on using information from the NED thus eliminating the need for ORS to maintain this information themselves.  Another benefit will be the creation of unique IDs for all NIH workers.
